49ers GM John Lynch: “We will support Richard Sherman and his family in any way we can”

Richard Sherman is no longer a member of the San Francisco 49ers, but his former team is ready to assist the free-kick at a time when he seems to need help.

Sherman was arrested Wednesday in a Seattle suburb on suspicion of “burglary domestic violence,” as well as charges of resisting arrest and malicious unrest.

During a Zoom call on Thursday before joining the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Niners general manager John Lynch was asked about Sherman, who has played the last three seasons in San Francisco.

Leeds learned of Sherman’s condition when he returned to the United States after a safari in Tanzania with his family.

“Obviously not the news you want to hear, definitely surprising,” Leeds said. “Obviously I got to the family – to Richard, to Ashley (Sherman’s wife) – just let them know we want to be a resource for them. We do for all our players, both current and former.

“Above all else, I just pray for them. They are good people, and I just pray they find their way through it, and we will support them in any way we can.”

SHERMAN ARREST:On suspicion of burglary of domestic violence

In a 911 call received by Seattle radio station KIRO, Sherman’s wife, Ashley Moss, described a scene in her home.

“He is trying to leave now. He is aggressive. He is fighting with my uncle,” he told the sender. “He is threatening to commit suicide. He has sent text messages to people who say he will hang himself.”

Moss said Sherman had no weapons and asked police not to shoot him when they arrived. He told The Seattle Times that Sherman did not hurt anyone, adding, “He is a good man and that is not his character.”

A triple All-Pro, Sherman was expected to sign with a contestant later this summer.
