Javier Bardem is set to star in the adaptation of the classic children’s book “Lyle, Lyle Crocodile” created at Sony, a person with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
Will Speck and Josh Gordon are directing the film, which will also include original music by “La La Land” by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The film is a hybrid of live action and Sony Pictures intends to release it on July 22, 2022.
“Lyle, Lyle Crocodile” is a 1965 book by Bernard Waber that follows Lyle, a crocodile living in a Victorian cafe with the Primm family, who found him in their bathtub when they moved. when a neighbor decides that Lyle belongs to the zoo.
Will Davies wrote the screenplay for “Lyle, Lyle Crocodile” based on Waber’s best-selling children’s book.
Speck and Gordon produce the film with Hutch Parker. Dan Wilson is executive producer for Hutch Parker Entertainment and Kevin K. Vafi is executive producer for Speck & Gordon. Pasek and Paul are also executive producers. Brittany Morrissey oversees the project for the studio.
Bardem will then be seen in Denis Villeneuve’s science fiction episode “Dune”. She will also see in “The Good Boss” by Fernando Le “n de Aranoa, the live action “The Little Mermaid” for Disney and Lucille Ball’s “Being the Ricardos” biography of Aaron Sorkin starring Nicole Kidman.
Bardem is represented by WME and attorneys Michael L. Schenkman and Jake Bloom. Pasek and Paul are represented by CAA and Kraft-Engel Management.
