Jay Shaylor Out as executive producer on CBS Evening News

Jay Shaylor, executive producer of “CBS Evening News With Norah O’Donnell”, leaves his role less than two years after taking office.

“Jay Shaylor is leaving the company. “We thank him for his contribution to the show and for helping it evolve into the program that has an impact today,” a CBS News spokesman told TheWrap on Friday. “The Evening News is in amazing hands with a stellar group of journalists, led by Elizabeth Turner and Alturo Rhymes, as we define the new executive leadership.”

The statement went on to say, “With Norah O’Donnell as an anchor and director, the Evening News is in its best competitive position in years. We are extremely proud of the broadcast and what this team will be able to achieve as we move forward. “

Shaylor joined Evening News in 2019 after moving to CBS from CNN, where he was executive producer of “The Situation Room With Wolf Blitzer”.

This is the first major upheaval since taking office at CBS News. Susan Zirinski resigned as president of CBS News in April after two years in the role. She took him to the concert in January 2019 and started renewing the “Evening News” show, which named Shaylor as executive producer in September of the same year. Zirinski undertook to turn a sharp drop in the ratings for “Evening News” and other CBS News shows.

The “Evening News” ratings took over the first months of O’Donnell’s date, with Nielsen figures showing that the week of October 14, 2019 brought 5.232 million viewers, 17% less than its predecessor, Jeff Glor , brought a year ago. In the viewership demographic that was coveted by advertisers from 25 to 54, her show garnered 971,000 viewers – a 25% drop from last year’s Glor’s numbers.

After Zirinsky announced her departure from the role, ViacomCBS announced that CBS News was merging with local CBS television stations and would be co-directed by Neeraj Khamlani and Wendy McMahon, who were appointed presidents and co-chairs at the time of the announcement.
